Hayley’s Advice

This is a letter that Hayley wrote for Seventeen Magazine. (found here)
Links have been added by hayley.checkered-vans.com

Hey Seventeen readers,

It’s Hayley from Paramore… hope you’re all doin’ well and feelin’ sexy!!! I thought since I love hair and make up and other things that girls — and even some guys — enjoy, I could write a little about it all. There are some great products and a couple really easy tricks that I use out on the road to keep from lookin’ like a hot mess. You might find they come in handy for you, too!

Well, I am obsessed with skin. My skin was never too bad until our second year on the road… then the hectic schedule and the stress began causing my skin to break out. My dermatologist introduced me to the La Roche Posay skin care line and Elta SPF 45 sunscreen (which I wear everyday) for my face and my skin has never felt better. These products are the only thing in my “beauty regimen” that can be a little costly but it’s worth the money cause like I said…I’m obsessed with skin, ha.

If you dye your hair any shade of red you can attest to this: Red hair dye seems to hate us and hardly holds the way we want it to. You gotta fight for it, man! If I go 3 or 4 days between washes and only wash with color safe shampoo and freezing cold water I can usually get a good 3 weeks of vibrant colored hair.

So, if you’re like me and you love coloring your hair try to part from the shower a few days…liberate yourself. Use Johnson’s baby powder or Bumble and Bumble’s hair powder (which comes in a few different colors) in the roots to keep your hair looking full and (sorta) clean between washes.

Last but not least, the ultimate product, baby wipes!!! Not only are they good for washing your disgusting underarms after an insane circle pit at the New Found Glory show but you can also use them to wipe off your make up and start over fresh. I use them before reapplying make up during the day and always after shows to keep eye shadow from staining my eyelids. They are easy on your skin and should take off even water proof makeup all for about $3. Versatile AND cheap!

Well, I hope some of this can be of some use to you. If not I still had fun writing it all, haha. See you at the show!

-Hayley

Shelley: it depends how vibrant you want the colour, if you want a bright red you should probably bleach it, if you want a darker red you should dye it without using bleach.

recently i dyed my hair red, the colour if you wanna get rid of it doesn’t go easily i bleached my hair to ghet rid of it but in the end went back red, it does work to bleach it first but i would say brown is the perfect colour to go to red from naturally i’m blnode and i easily acheived this colour, but bleaching wastes time just dye it red straight away is the easiet for you,

Shelley, I dyed my hair too. It was the fringe very bright red, the outside hair bright red and the inside hair orange. The bleaching does a lot of harm at the hair, they become really dry and it kinda hurts! :p
and the colour fades! I had it for 3 weeks and I washed my hair 1 time a week. but i swam in the sea so the most damage is from that!!!
i really looooooooved the colour but it doesn’t last…

advice! wash your hair in cold cold water! that really helps and it really helps to get your hair healthy again from all the coloring and it makes it really shiny. i wash my hair about once and week and my color, which is red and orange right now, has stayed in over three weeks and its just barrelly starting to fade. if your dying your hair red for the first time its gonna fade pretty quick but over time your hair should hold the color better. also get a good shampoo. the kind that i use is kind of expensive but its is really think and it lasts a LONG time! also be gentle with your hair while it wet because coloring it does make your hair weak so while its wet dont scrub it with your towl or yank a comb through it. be gentle! last thing, let your hair air dry for the most part, but when its almost all the way dry go blow dry to. it will help it be less greecy(cant spell) and it will help give it volume.

hey i want to dye my hair the red in decode but im a dirty blonde colour. do u think it will come out like that? also im only fourteen and i was planning on dying my hair but the thing is i still go to school and will it turn out a great success? or leave me looking totally hideous that people will bully me for it? also i dnt think they allow bright coloured hair at school so if anyone can give me some suggestions in how to get my hair a red that is dark without it being too dark but looking fresh and you can see its a reddish colour.

Hey Paige (:
I recently got my hair dyed, it’s actualy not a good idea to dye your hair bright red trust me i’ve been there and i got tired of having to always top up the colour cos it fades so quick. So you are definatly best going for the decode colour, i think it will come out great if you go to the hairdressers, The decode colour is a kind of cherry type of red but just a little bit darker :) i know because tht is the colour of my hair at the moment and i absolutley love it you shoul go for it. Make sure it is permament hair dye you get and not semi-permement. x Hope you like it as much as i love mine x let me know if this helps.

to paige: hey there, i guess you better ask someone from your school, a teacher perhaps, if your actually allowed to dye your hair. I dyed my hair when i was still in high school and i got scolded haha. since you’ve got a bit of blonde hair, i guess the hair color would stay because it’s practically a blank canvas.

if you don’t want like a vibrant red color, try going for auburn or if you want, try mixing a bit of brown hair color with red, but auburn’s definitely the one you should go for. i think the hayley hair color are of this site has an auburn section. if you don’t want it, just try mixing the colors =)

also, have confidence with your hair once it’s colored! haha, people would definitely make fun of it if they see that you don’t feel confident about it. Look at Hayley, people love her hair because she’s so confident about it and she’s setting a great example, why not follow? =)

Hope that helps and i also hope your hair dye works out! =)

Hey araceli, if your hair’s vecer been died before then its wuite easy to go any colour. I died my hair red with Live Colour XXL over years worth of dye and it worked well, and lasted for ages… The colour does fade a bit but its still very red for a couple months

Hey guys,
Well I’ve been almost every single hayley colour ever and its always turned out great.
If you want to go white or yellow, no matter what your hair colour you have to bleach it first. Bleaching won’t damage your hair too much if you use a toner after and make sure that you use treatments! The best treatment is from the range CPR.
If you want to go orange or red and your hair is any darker then a medium blonde then you must bleach your hair. Like I said before, use toners and treatments! Also make sure that you wash your hair with color safe shampoo and conditioner. My hair is currently a bit brighter than the ‘decode’ red and I use John Freider Red Shampoo and wash my hair with freezing cold water. Uncomfortable but it works!
Do not brush or srub hair with a towel too hard when its wet or it will snap because bleaching strips your hair of all its natural moistures and becomes very much like elastic. Let it air dry for a while until its mostly dry then use a hair dryer. If you want to straighten or curl your hair after this, use a heat protectant spray before you straighten. Don’t wash your hair more than once a week for the first month of having your hair bleached because leaving your hair unwashed does not only give you a longer lasting hair colour but also returns some of the natural moistures to your hair and helps repair it.

Time July 31, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Also, if you dye your hair two or more different colors, for example, white, yellow, orange and red like the ‘misery business’ hair hayley had then you HAVE TO while washing your hair section the colors so that the dye won’t run into the lighter colors and stain them. This is called ‘bleeding’ you don’t want this to happen because it ruins it.

Comment from r
Time July 31, 2009 at 11:55 pm

To Araceli: If you want to go the hayley ‘decode’ red than I suggest you bleach your hair first if its any darker then light brown. After you’ve done that, the colour I find is the closest to decode red is ‘Schwarzkopf Live Colour XXL Hypnotic Red’
And the style of the cut is hair length just below your collarbone with a few choppy, blended layers all around with short choppy bangs. If you go to your hairdresser and show them a clear picture of hayley’s hair in decode then they will be able to do it for you. And to keep your hair that vibrant red, I recommend John Frieda Collection Radiant Red Shampoo and Conditioner and wash your hair with freezing cold water! Hope this helps.

OK, here’s a list of things to do and not to do:

1. Don’t take into account any other comment you have just read. They are not hairdressers.
2. Home dyes run, so use an old towel when you wash your hair, and don’t have any other colours lighter than red in your hair or the red dye will run into those colours.
3. The best non-running hair dye is manic panic, but you do have to bleach. The longest lasting hair dye is Jeans Dye.
4. Don’t use a developer above 30vol, unless your virgin hair is a dark colour and it is healthy.
5. Leave AT LEAST 2 weeks between every bleach. I know it sounds like a long time, but if you do this, you won’t be holding clumps of burnt off hair.
6. Once your hair is a brassy colour, you can use a special shampoo (which is a dark violet colour) that helps restore moisture to your hair and slowly draw out the brassiness. You can also use toner at this stage.
7. Don’t bleach your hair any more than 3 times. If you do, it will take at least a year to get it back to it’s original health…

Now I’m writing this, I realise there is WAY too much to explain and way too many dangers for people who have no idea what they are doing. For example, with colour matching, there is also colour correction if the hair has been dyed before, how many layers of colour there are and what colours they are, the health of the hair, what colour the virgin hair is… then the person has to decide what exact colour they want, and different hair colours react differently with other colours. How do u think hairdressers make the colour you want? By mixing certain amounts of colours to also mix with the colour in your hair. Also, salon colours have a certain amount of bleach in them too, so… what I’m going to end up saying is… GO TO A HAIRDRESSERS! I don’t have a year to teach everyone colour mixing and chemicals.

Comment from Keito
Time August 4, 2009 at 9:05 pm

Also, the reason why bleached hair snaps is not really because it’s lacking moisture, it’s mainly because you’re forcing the hair cuticles open. So even if you put all the best treatments in the world into your hair, it’s still going to break a lot earlier than if you hadn’t bleached it in the first place.

See, natural blondes have hair where the hair cuticles stick out, like if you brush scales off a fish against the grain. Hence why people with naturally lighter hair have thinner hair.

People who have dark hair have the opposite: their hair cuticles are closed, so their hair is thicker and stronger.

Like I said before, just go to a hairdressers. You’re all in way over your heads. Sorry ‘^.^

hey shelbie
I didnt had black hair but all I can say from my long time experience in this field is to dye your hair as less as possible. I had the same colors as Hayley did in MizBiz about a year ago. So I think be the best thing to do would be bleach it. The whole goin lighter and lighter thing will take awhile like really awhile and as I understand you want a fast effect :)
just remember when you’ll bleach your hair use all possible products for your hair to get better like conditioniers, masks, oils everything :)

Hey…need help!! =S
My natural hair colour is a medium brown colour and I’ve been wanting to dye my hair a copper orange colour for a long time now but I’m finding it really difficult to find a decent brand for me. I’ve tried some L’oreal brands that have said they work on brunettes, but when I’ve tried them out I see no change in my hair colour =S. I know that it’s most likely due to my hair colour why the colourant doesn’t come out so well but I really don’t want to bleach my hair to try to make it more vibrant =S.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of any colourant brands (preferably semi-permanent) that are really vibrant so they will work well on brunettes.
Thanks and sorry if this doesn’t make any sense!!! haha. Katie

Hey Shelbie. I have darkish brown hair, but I have gotten half of my hair (underneath) bleached before. I got it professionally done, because it’s better than bleaching it yourself and I’m sure that the people who are hairdressers know what they’re doing. Haha, so if anything, I would ask your hairdresser, but if you want some advice from someone who has actually gotten their hair bleached before, I can help :D.

Okay, so it honestly isn’t a problem that you have black hair. If you are going to bleach it, bleach it all the way through. If you do it in a process where you’re going to bleach it once then color it Brown and then keep going up (where you have to bleach it over and over again, DON’T DO IT!!!) You’re hair will fall out, I promise! my hair fell out because I had my hair bleached, didn’t like the color, so I re-bleached it, and what do you know!? It falls out.

I storngly suggest bleaching it once, all the way through. But since you have such darrrrrrk hair, leave it in for atleast an hour. If you want it to be completely blonde at first, and then apply the red, leave it in for a tad bit longer. Don’t quote me on all of this, though. I never bleach my hair myself, but I did bleach my bestfriend’s hair before and she had medium/light brown hair. We left it in for about 20 minutes because it looked blonnnde, but let me tell you……… it was as orange as an orange! Ha!

Anyways, if you do get it proffessionally done, this process will be done differently and your stylist will know what to do with it.

Noooooow, if you wish to go back to Black, that’w when you do it in a process — it’s cool anyway because at first, you have to color your hair Red. Leave it in for about two weeks, then a medium brown or a brown dark enough to cover up the Red, leave it in for two weeks, then do a Dark brown, leave it in for two weeks, and then find a color of Black that will fade back to your natural.

DO NOT! do this yourself, go to a proffessional for that because there IS a difference between buying hair color from the box at the store and the ones stylist use in people’s hair (box colors have metalics in their hairdye which makes it a bit more damaging!) So, from this point on you’ll reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally have to take extremely good care for your hair.

IF BLEACHED:
- do not where your hair in a tight ponytail (causes hair to break more easily)
- buy hair conditioner that works your hair to be healthier again
- and if you go back to your natural, but even if you stay with the bleached hair UNLESS you are going back to your natural, don’t keep bleaching it and/or coloring it over and over again.

If you don’t get the color (Red) you like, then that’s the only reason why you should keep coloring it, but PROMISE ME YOU WILL TAKE EXXXXXXXXXXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF YOUR HAIR!

- Makrina <3 .

“Hayley Williams red” been there, done that. If I could go back though, I would! My natural color is brown, but by the time I [bleached and] dyed it red, I had been dying it black for 2yrs. Soooo let’s just say the bleach and stuff KILLED my poor hair. But it was worth it! The redying it all the time, though…. I could’ve lived without. I used temporary dye all the time. So yeahh, suckishh! Anyway….. then I went to mexico without my temp dye. Goodbye red, hello nasty orangey-strawberry blonde hair. That was the end of my Hayley hair! ): Then I tried blonde…. bad times, bad times! :| Anyway, basically I’d go back to the red if I could! My hair is sooooo much longer now and would look soo rad “Hayley red”. But I just dyed it black on Friday. No red for a loooong time now!

I really, really want bright red hair, but I don’t think I can do it. :C I dyed my hair dark brown a year ago and though it used to be natural light brown with some blonde, it’s obviously not growing in lighter for some reason. I think bleaching it would be too much damage already, and then my hair would start to grow back in brown so I’d only be able to do it one time anyway. );
If only I had been born with blonde hair. :/

if your hair is dyed black or something and you want the hayley colour. it would really be best to just let the colour fade. Don’t use colour protect shampoo. Use fairly hot water to wash your hair and wash it regulary. If you wanted to bleach it you could but if your hair was recently dyed black it’s damaging. If your home dying get someone to help (:

Hello guys.

Ok, I need some adivice… big time!!

I’ve been dying my hair for over 7 years now and I’ve done so many colours its scary. My favourite was the bright red (thats what you get) but now I want a bright red that has a hint of orange. I know how to get the dye (never been to hair dressers and it always works out) butttt the problem is I recently bleached the underneath layer and a little around the fringe, and then dyed over it with aurburn (is that even how you spell it? aha) and the blond is coming through again even though I used a permanent dye. Would you guys advise me going through with it or whatever? I’m always worried it will kill my hair, even though it feels pretty soft at the moment.

P.S do any of you guys know how to speed hair growth? =P aha

My hair is brown, and I don’t want to dye it, but I do want it to look a little more vibrant looking sometimes…does this hair powder do that? and also, if it does…is it permanent, or does it wash out when you shower?

you should keep getting your hair trimmed regularly if you want it to grow faster.
and I’ve had bright red hair for over three years now, and I’ve never bleached it so you really shouldn’t do that with unless you’ve got like black hair, in which case you should get it stripped at a hair dressers, cause it absolutely kills it. you can use wash outs rather then permanent dyes as well like fudge.

having red hair is really time consuming as well, and really only like 10% of peolpe suit it. you should think about if its worth it before doing anything.

hi guys, :)
i have lightish brown hair and during my “hayley phase” i died it red.

personally, i didn’t want to much damamge done so i used loreal pulse in several colors and it gave a me a pretty good color,
maybe a year into it, i gave in and bought some real hair dye, and as hayley warned, most of it faded in a few washes after which i bought more loreal pulse and used that once more, that was pretty much the end of my red hair but i can tell you from my experience that now, about a year later, there is still i little hint of ginger and you can definatly tell my light brown roots are starting to show.

Another alternative i’ve discovered but did so too late to try out, was henna. It’s an ALL NATURAL process, in fact it makes your hair healthier and if you want you could probably find some from google. Anyways, i read that it’s natural color is red and it stays with you for a few years so I think someone should try henna and tell us how that works out.
I’ve even seen some photos of people who’s hair turned out more towards that orange side, so if you want “hayley-hair” you could try henna and see what color it gives you!

good luck!

hey Guys
I had the miseryBussines hair not so long ago,
i have baturally dark reddy brown hair, i always died it black with a blonde flash at the side, but i decided to get the misery bussines hair, i got two feet cut off my hair to the same lenght as Hayleys in the MizBiz Video… i then used two boxes of the lightest Swartzkoph XXL dye i could find, i put one box on left that for ten minuets until partially lightened, at this point i made up the other bottle of blonde dye and put that with the dye already in my hair, not rinsing either of them off at all, until 35 mins later, you’re hair should go a gingery blonde colour, section the fringe that you want to keep blonde and tie that with a band at the front of your head, using a tint brush, brush in Swartzkoph live colour XXL in Passion Red, or a lighter or darker red if you disire, but this one really is the best, leave for 35 mins and rinse, your hair should now have: blonde fringe and bangs, Red all over the rest :) the red should turn out an orangy red, it will fade in aroung 4 months to a light orange like in the Ignorance video just a little duller, it’s easy to go over this colour to, i know have pink hair wich i went over the orange with x

Hey (: i had naturally blonde hair, which was quite light and i dyed my hair red for the first and it was like a plum colour, so it came out really well on my blonde hair, then it went orange! then i dyed it a second time and it kept in longer than the first, also with the other reddy colour already beneath the new red, it was more vibrant, and it eventually went orange about a month or so after i coloured it for the second time, now i have died it for the third time bright cherry red, and i have avoided straighteners as best i can, to help keep my hair in good condition with all this colouring, and i have bought a expensive hair shampoo for red heads, to keep it as vibrant as i can, and i have dyed it three time over a period of about 3 months, and its starting to keep longer, and i would wash my hair ever 2 – 3 days or so, so this is probably a good result for the length of time, its not as vibrant as it was when it was first done, but its not turned ginger yet ( which i think is actually quite cool!) i have used Live XL Passion Red this time which i think i got the best results with, the other time was Live Extreme Gloss, the red colour, which faded quickly.. and i dye my own hair btw, so its a pretty sweet result for not getting it done professionally, and its alot cheaper! & i have thought of putting bleach blonde under my fringe area, like the flare style Hayley had, haven’t got round to it yet, but it would be a cool idea!

I dyed my hair waaay too often.
My natural colour was like a pretty dark, pretty aweful blonde and I had my hair much darker for long time. To get my hair kinda red I didn’t bleach it, just take a red colour that’s a bit lighter than you want it :) it works pretty well that way.
Also I wash my hair pretty often (in comparison to you guys xD) and with using cold water it’s okay.
But be warned, once you got red hair you won’t get rid of it easily xD

The best advice i can give when yer doing something so drastic to yer hair GO TO A REAL HAIRDRESSER, otherwise most of you will be going to one anyway for corrective color which ends up costing more in the long run. you may not think it but hayleys red is not an easy thing to achieve.

I i had medium brown hair and died it like hers in decode and it came out pretty awesome you just need to be careful about not over washing and things. and i don’t really sugest bleaching seeing after a month or so your hairs gonna look pretty strange and it weakens the hair quite a bit.

ok, so im a hairdresser and i just read all of your questions and i think i can help. I keep my hair red so who better to give you advice right?
so all the ppl wanting to dye it red:
If you have previously dyed your hair a dark color the answer is YES you will need to bleach it but i strongly recommend you go to someone who knows what they are doing becuz if you mess up…well have fun with yer hair breaking off. but for all you brave ppl out there bleach it until it pulls a warm YELLOW color. when you wash it off your gonna look like pee pee head so dont panic. You need yer hair in this yellow pigment stage to hold the red better. pick yer favorite color red and apply for 20-30 min
for all those with virgin hair (hair that has no artifical color in it) you do not (unless your hair is darker then medium brown follow rules above,,unless you want dark red hair) you CAN just dye your hair red. your hair will hold the color fine. leave it on for 20-30 min under heat.
now getting your red to last long. hayley is absolutly right use bumble and bumble red (or orange depending on your haircolor) powder when it starts to fade or get dirty. it will brighten yer hair ridiculously. we sell it at my salon and i love it.
for everyone worried about damage you can prevent that buy only coloring your hair once every six weeks and leaving conditioner on in the shower for 6 minutes everytime you wash your hair.
but my best piece of advice is to just suck it up and go to your hairdresser and pay to get it done, becuz guys we did go to school to learn about this stuff so we kinda know what we are doing haha. your hairdresser will know exactly what to do and that way you dont have to worry about ruining your hair doing it yourself and paying your hairdresser twice as much to fix it once youve messed it up. hope this helped
=)

ppl who are not hairdressers PLEASE stop giving other ppl advice. yer giving them BAD advice…one girl told some other girl to leave bleache on her hair for an hour to get black out…NO, that is the worst advice ive ever heard. Under no circumstances shud bleache ever EVER be left on anyones hair that long if they actually dont wanna be bald. advice for everyone stop being cheap and go to your hairdresser. becuz if yall follow half of the advice on here not only will most of yall not have red hair you will not have any hair at all.

Hey Shelly I Have Been Dying My Hair Red For About Two Years Now, Im Naturally a light brown and I dye It Like Slightly Brighter than Hayleys Decode hair. It Is Best to Bleach It before dying It Red Cause If Its That Dark The Red Dye Wont Show Up, It Just Makes It Like Almost Black. But Dont Dye It Platnum Blonde If You Dont Want And Amazingly Bright Red Like Either Mine Or Hayleys, Take It To A Darker Blond And Maybe A Semi Permanant Red before you Change It To Such A Radical Colour. Hope This Helps xx

Shelly, I dyed my hair red like in Decode without bleaching it. It fade quite quickly though so you need to dye it once a month, every time you dye it though it will take more.

I recently dyed my underlayers and part of my fringe a mixture of ‘Decode’ red and pinkish, and I love it. I’ve been dyeing my hair since the third grade and it’s something I enjoy. It’s been blonde and brown, black, brown and orange, brown and pink, brown and purple, brown and blue, black again, and now it’s brown and red. I dye it all at home with the help of my mom and it always comes out the way I want it, though she’s not professional, nor am I, obviously. But honestly, though home-dyeing is capable of disatorous results, give it a shot. It costs less and lets face it, hair grows back and you can do something to fix it, always. But if your really that nervous and timid about home-dyeing, then professionals, though costly, are the best way to go. (:

hey Chloe.
going from black to red is not really a problem (i also had black hair and now i am a redhead) but you shouldn’t bleach it all at once because if you do so your hair will look a little stained, because the bleach can’t remove all the black in the same way. some parts are bright and some are dark. so i think you should do it stepwise like just colour some of your hair red while you leave a little bit black. looks quite good because the colors are going to mix. then you could go to complete red after a while. well thats how i did it. takes some time but better than looking like a dalmatian or destroying your hair

hope i could help you a little

sorry if my english is a little bad. i am from austria ;)

I bleached my hair then dyed it Hayley red like two years ago and I still can’t get rid of it. My hair was originally black/brown but now it insists on staying at a sort of auburn color. So if you’re gonna dye your hair her color you should make sure its a color you wanna stick to, cuz it’ll take forever to get your natural color back.

hey i wanna dye my hair like hayley has in this pic http://www.123posters.com/images/music/m-paramore1.jpg and i dyed my hair a bright auburn color last year and its basically back to my normal color (whick is a medium/light brown) and im not sure if i should bleach it or not. if i did this style i would definitly go to a hairdresser but i just wanna know how bad the damage could possibly be if i had my hair bleached and then dyed. (oh and i straightn the ends of my hair so would i have to stop straightining it if i got it bleached???)

Hey, i have bright red hair. but its not permanent, i use crazy colour ‘fire red’. my hair is medium brown (reasonably dark) and i didnt bleach it and it came out insanely vibrant. i was well chuffed xD . its lasted about a month now! and its just dying down. semi permenant is good because my roots arent showing and stuff and its not expensive. i love my hair and hayley!!!! i hope this helped. Hey! I’ve got naturally brown boring hair so I got half of my hair bleached (It’s was hela weird, my hairdresser did it without telling me she was doing it in such a weird place) and then I dyed it blue and I’ve had it purple. I then dyed my hair this purple hair and there was like, this beach in it? So my hair went this weird colour, I can’t even describe it, it was like lighter brown. SO now, I dyed my hair red using Manic Panic which is semi-permanent and it fades REALLY fast. Any got good tips? I use the color safe shampoo, wash my hair twice a week in cold water and rinse my hair with a mixture of white vinegar and water (it raises the pH of the dye) Thanks. Love this website, btw!

You have to bleach it. But don’t trust anyone else to do it, they could ruin it. only use Loreal Feria from CVS or Walgreens bleach blonde color 205. nothing else. then go to sallys or wherever and get some bright red hair dye.
here’s how you do it… just follow the instructions on the Loreal packet and leave it in for an our or so… till your roots turn white. then rinse it all out and dry it thoroughly. instantly put in the red dye and leave it in for 30-40 minutes, or until you get the desired color. then rinse it out thoroughly and put tons of the conditioner in that came w/ the bleach. dry and treat it like Hayley says in the 3rd paragraph.
this is how I do it and it works great! my hair’s still in great condition. you can also get some John Frieda Moisturizor Frizz-free spray at wal-mart and shampoo & conditioner for redheads from him as well…
Good luck!

Hey guys, just thought I’d give you some advice just for the sake of it :P I dye my hair is really bright red and before I got the result I have now I went through a few other dyes but none of them made it that vibrant. My natural hair colour is medium brown and to get it as bright as I wanted instead of using bleach(because I was told how much it can damage your hair) I first used XXL live in platinum blonde and then I put crazy colour in ‘Fire’ on top and it came out really really bright, so if you’re looking to dye your hair really bright I would advise you to do the same. It lasts quite long too, it’s only the roots taht get annoying so I have to dye it every 4 weeks but the colour itself stays bright for quite a while- when it begins to fade it just goes an orangey red but I still like that colour too :) hope that helps x

Abby, this may sound weird and may sting your eyes… But take some hairspray and spray it on a q tip, then rub it on your eyes where you put eyeliner. Then apply eyeliner, then rub more hairspray LIGHTLY over it. It may not work, but it does 4 me! Or you might wanna try waterproof eyeliner

paige:) i died my hair red before and i wasnt allowed it at school, so my hairdresser suggested that i’d just get red streaks put in! its not as cool as hayley but my school let me have it and its fine just while im at school! sometimes its cool to get it coloured red underneath..and leave your natural hair ontop! well, if you have brown hair than it’l work great! or if you want it all over than auburn is the way to go! its fresh and is slightly a browner red, without being dull! go for it girl! who cares about peeps at school, we have our own style and hayley certainly doesnt care who likes it or hates it.. be careful though, my hair faded after less than 2 weeks of the colour.. and then it went golden browny blondy colour.. horrible! now its stuck that colour.. so i suggest that you go to the hairdressers! Good Luck! xx
